Hole “N” One Golf Club’s History

In 1998, a group of not so ordinary guys, who loved the game of golf, had a passion to help make a difference in the community. They decided to form a golf club that would allow them to play golf and provide funds to help meet the needs of various charities.

The first meetings were at Smith’s Restaurant in Shannon, MS, different members’ homes and later at Red Oak M. B. Church. Officers were elected and informal guidelines were established and the Hole “N” One golf Club was founded.

The Founding Members were:

Carl Trice Kenneth Roberts
Henry Blanks John Armstrong
Curtis Robert Smith George Witherspoon
James Brim Sonny Hodges
James Talley Theodis Foster

The members were mostly from the Tupelo and Shannon areas and did not have a home golf course, so they decided to rotate golf courses throughout the area in order to be fair to all members. Contributions to local charities and some scholarships were given.

Later, Big Oaks Golf Course became the home course and it was decided that the centerpiece of the organization would be an annual golf tournament, supported by soliciting sponsors and donations and gifts from the Lee County Community. A portion of the proceeds from the tournament would be used to donate to the charities. Initially the focus was on prostate cancer and sickle cell, but as the years passed the Sister Network of Tupelo, MS an affiliate of Sister Network, Inc. became the adopted charity.
